I dunno. Functionally it's great, brilliant idea and execution. Stylistically speaking though I'm not a huge fan of the bare aluminium on the back and especially the pine on the side. Speakers just hanging down there aren't a great look either. Looks home made but not in a good way, which is unusual to see in one of Matt's builds. Maybe a darker wood and some of that carbon fibre effect wrap (or possibly just black to match the rest of the monitor) and rear mounted downward facing speakers would have looked a little more in keeping with the original style of the monitor.

What is your plan for when the CMOS battery dies? It is going to default back to using the laptop's built-in display, which is no longer an option.

The subwoofer in the wooden case is genius for acoustical reasons. Bass gets amplified in wood since the wood resonates and essentially makes the whole of the wood a part of the woofer. That's a trick I used to great effect when I was in the barracks and couldn't fit a big sound system in. Just positioned the woofer in the back middle of the underside of my desk so that the walls of the desk made it seem like I had something more expensive than the small sub woofer I had.

What if I have a broken laptop hinge and I want to move all of it into an old obsolete laptop I used to have, I can find a way to just remove the components and make it fit into the new one, as long as it's a 17" monitor laptop housing that can take my current wobbly 17" right? I am getting a new laptop, but I would also like to maybe just do what this guy just did and keep this as my "desktop" with just buying some upgrades for it (It's the Asus ROG G750, my old one).

Cool stuff but 3 things. 1) By 2/2020 standards that laptop was woefully crap. 2) How do you not have a cover for the cabling in the back. 3) You obviously tested the push power before doing most of the gluing up so why you gotta say "now to press the push button and let's hope it powers on"

Hmm, I could do this on my old laptop. The screen is shattered, half the hinge assembly is missing, it's just not in great shape... but it's a ThinkPad T61, so it otherwise works as well as new! I recently used it as a backup PC when my main system refused to boot properly. Surprisingly, it boots faster than even my main _laptop._ I think an AIO would be the perfect opportunity to bring it some new life. Edit: I don't have a spare monitor, and I don't want to -deal with Lenovo's poor design choice and abhorrent abundance of screws- disassemble a functional laptop. It's not even damaged externally, apart from the display. I think I'll use it as a keyboard AIO, seeing as Lenovo/IBM had phenomenal keyboards of the time, pointer nub and all.

Great craftsmanship, I am thinking to do with my old Acer 3830tg but not so extensively. Unfortunately as I was disassembling laptop, one of the pc board came out from the motherboard. No idea where it come from as it got loose from its connector, part # Door Switch Board LS-7124P DC02001B300, 455NPBB0L01C2, laptop turns on and i can see desktop via external monitor. My question is, can i continue using laptop without above part if I convert it desktop?

I though instead of buying the isolater you could just use a basic buffer op amp which is cheap. Also I enjoy actually seeing things I'm learning in my electronics engineering course at work like the latching relay, said op amp, amplifiers for the speakers to filter out the noise. Very holistic activity.

If you want to take the power button problem a step further, you can use a multimeter to find what pins are used for the button on the keyboard and the resistance if needed then (carefully) solder a button to the respecting pins with the corresponding resistance (if it uses resistance for identifying keys).

  • F99 Crafter

    26 วันที่ผ่านมา

Not really. You might could desolder the CPU and place another on it, but you would likely break something, and also need to find a replacement that can be placed onto the same socket, which is probably not possible at an reasonable price. Apart from that, unless you want to have high-performance applications, most CPU's will do the job fine. And you can achieve a good amount of speed-up using more RAM and an SSD.
