You used a standard mirror to reflect the phone light, correct? This causes the projected image to have a small ghost image, because standard mirrors have the reflection coating applied behind the glass, so the top surface of the glass also reflects the light, causing a dimmed ghost reflection.

Brilliant! This design leaves room to be highly customizable for just about any decor. Thank you for keeping the directions and explanation of each step simple. It’s greatly appreciated. I’ll be making this today to use as a means to project my sketches from the phone onto canvas.

I want a projector to trace an image on my wall and paint it in. This would work! Thanks, and much cheaper than buying one for a one time use.

Thanks for sharing your experiments! I crafted one of these few years ago but I didn't think about the mirror option. Also, as a teacher I find this a very interesting project to do with children, so they can learn few things about optics while they have fun creating a very useful tool.

Thank you so much! I’ve been looking for a good tutorial that makes a pretty good diy projector. I love stars and I wanted to project them in my room because they really calm me down and help me fall asleep (I have sleeping problems.) So thank you so much

When I built mine, I used a fresnel full-page magnifier as my lens. It was brighter, but the image quality suffered. Trade-offs though.

Love your projects! Would really like to see your take on a DIY motion sim chair for racing/flying videogames. Getting the chair to tilt back to feel acceleration is the crucial missing link in a VR setup as a proper rig is really expensive.

Thanks for your time and awesome design supervision for the cool projector. I'm looking forward to making one myself after I gather all of the pieces of the projector together. Aloha, Kevin

For anyone doing the basic shoebox idea, just install an app that can invert/rotate the screen so you don't have any backwards/upside down issues,
