8:45 - Spontaneous combustion or spontaneous ignition is a type of combustion which occurs by self-heating, an increase in temperature due to exothermic internal reactions. What you meant to say is: "...this dry stick instantly ignites, due to the intensity of the focused solar radiation".

Using a water cooled heat sink such as the Corsair h100i would be an easy solution for a higher powered led, and the fans for the radiator can be configured in a push/pull setup over the radiator, I believe reducing the stress of the fans and optimizing the air flow. Fantastic build; I’m definitely going to be doing a similar build.

I earn min. wages of 450 USD /hour; If I look at this project it will cost me 200 dollars plus 20 hours. That means 20 hr x 450=9000+200+225. Including half an hour of watching your video my total cost for this project is 9,425.00 US dollars. Plus I will not have auto correction for tilt screen. So I can buy one for 2500 dollars nice portable 8"x12" projector that would be a peace of mind. This video tutorial is a super STUPID idea. Why don't you spend some time and try to REINVENT the WHEEL. I disliked your video and block your channel by putting your channel id in the fire wall to never to see STUPID things ever again. You should try to invent French Leather with super fine transprent material. Would be a good time-passing for you. Just make sure there is no HOLE on the top.

A genuine 4K projector costs about $1900, for something quite reasonable. Your one would probably cost about $600 BUT the effort and skill required to do it would be enormous - and there would be no warranty... This is a very impressive project but beyond the capability of most people. Have you considered selling a kit, that would take the average user 2-3 hours to assemble?

A question about the negative pressure setup for cooling. In PC builds it is always mentioned to go for positive pressure, so you don't pull dust through any unfiltered places into the case. Does the direction of airflow actually matter in this case?

  • Robert Marder

    Robert Marder

    16 วันที่ผ่านมา

Airflow direction matters in this build because the hottest place is at the bottom by the exhaust, reversing the flow would mean all that heat from the led lamp would go up by the screen and phone, potentially destroying them. To make it positive pressure without reversing the airflow, he would need to add fans at the top of the case, which would disturb the light inside the projector and make it harder to keep the light sealed on the sidewalls as well. Since his case is 100% custom it's very easy to just ensure the air seal is perfect and eliminate unfiltered places, so negative pressure works fine in this case.

Is there a way one could add a stage at the start to allow a larger LED panel as the light source maybe focusing it to a point usable by the original design....? Something about 28x28cm using a panel of high-efficiency diodes.... A 100W diode might push out 8500lumens, a 100W panel could put out in excess of 17000.... and cooling isn't even that hardcore.

  • Kowjack Yow

    Kowjack Yow

    15 วันที่ผ่านมา

I am VERY curious of what the answer to your question is, 17.000lum would be amazing! I did a lot of VJing in my life and the sun rising in summer parties is just enough by itself to keep the dancefloor alive, smiling and pumpin', but damn those winter gloomy sundays mornings.....they could have used one or two more hours of colored trippy visuals!

Time for a 1 year follow up, version 1.1 vs a much nicer projector! Couple ideas I had.. That Noctua cooler is definitely beefy enough to handle way more than 100w of heat, led seems like easy upgrade. Also the last piece of acrylic being used as a dust cover seems like it should be glass. Idk enough projectors but I'm sure Matt could come up with some cool improvements. Motorize the focusing wheel thing maybe?

  • metamud

You mention in the video that "in just a minute" (21:20) you will be explaining why the air needs to push out, but I didn't catch that in the video "later on". It feels contraintuitive that you are trying to suck the hot air down from the top and out at the bottom (after all hot air "wants" to rise), rather than suck in cool(er) air from the bottom and hot air out the top. I'm sure you thought this all through and there is a top-notch explanation, but, despite the mentioning, I failed to find it in the video.

Like around 16-18 yrs ago, we used to do this with a huge metal halide bulb with its gigantic 10+ lbs transformer, a stripped 15" LCD monitor, a silver bowl-kitchen ware reflector (I forgot the name) and the lens spec'ed and designed by Brainchild. I wonder what happened to Brainchild's Lumenlab but I used to be one of those kids who made DIY projector. BTW, you can do lens shifting by tilting the Fresnel lens. I had this feature on my wooden projector that I used for 3+ yrs. Good times.
