FAQ TIME! If any of you have any questions, leave them in this thread and I’ll update it as they are asked :) Q: What tool was used to round the wood corners? A: Here in the UK it’s often called a surform, but rasp is also a common name Q: Isn’t the monitor too high? A: Slightly. It looks more so on video due to the perspective but it’s still pretty comfortable. It was only mounted there for this video anyway and will be moved somewhere else so I’ll make sure to have it slightly lower this time. Q: You’ve made loads of custom PCs… which ones to you actually use? A: Currently I use the brass and leather build for editing at the studio, and the large silent desk PC (the one with the glass front) is at home and used for photo editing and some gaming etc (though to be fair I haven’t played a game since last Christmas so it’s a fringe use case at the moment). Q: Have you considered watercooling the PC itself? A: Yes! I went with air cooling as it’s actually pretty decent (I still need to make some minor tweaks) but I do have plans to try watercooling the thing at some point. Q: Do you plan these videos? I mean do you make blueprints or you just have a general idea what you're gonna do and just make up on the way? A: I pretty much always just have an idea of what I want in my head, and then think through the process needed to get there, and then make it up as I go along. Q: Is making THmy videos your primary/ only job? A: YEP! I’m so grateful that I can do what is basically my hobby as my actual job. Q: Are you from the UK or from the US? A: Very much the UK. Q: Could you use a hydraulic system to lower the monitor in a more controlled way? A: Absolutely! It would make it more difficult to push upwards though, so keep that in mind.

I love this idea, but I was thinking, instead of aluminum paneling underneath, you could use like a frosted acrylic or something for diffusion and add some led strips underneath with a small switch somewhere to remove the need for any desk lamps as well

Hi, great video, just wanted to let you know, here in Canada and I believe most of North America it is against code to route electrical cables through walls. It voids most home insurance policies. I would highly advise against recommending this as a solution as it puts you in a position of liability.

For me you mounted it at the wrong side. You lose a lot of space behind the monitor, will be much better to attach it at the top flipped upside down (face up) But still appreciate your idea and efforts

Sorry, but I lost interest the moment he pulled it down from the upper shelf at the 0:32 second mark. Sorry bud. Props to you for coming up with some brilliant ideas, but I was hoping to see a monitor that maybe doesn't have any edges and is completely transparent until turned on or something. I guess the technology isn't far enough advanced for that, though. Still. There's a difference between a monitor being "invisible" and being "hidden".

This is such a bad idea, 1. Imagine when you want your screen to come down and you accidentally slip or lose your grip, it would fall at a high speed and break those arms made of aluminium because it's not supported by hydraulics. 2. Imagine if you retract it upwards and put something over the size of 30cm like a table lamp with an arm or a tall vase and you lose your grip while opening it, the screen would lunge into the object and shatter the screen. 3. Most people wouldn't retract it, it would just be a gimmick that noone barely uses, it would just be in it's useable position +90% of the time if not more.

Be careful with those splitters, especially our american friends. Those are 15amps max, that's what the actual plug is designed to handle. A gaming pc (1200w psu) can draw up to 5,2amps on the european grid, but for our 110v american friends that's already almost 11amps. European standard breakers are just 16A anyway, so you'd probably trip the breaker before the splitter melts. But in the US with 20A and 25A breakers not being uncommon.... Just saying because anybody thinks this would be a great way to power a lan party setup, just daisy chain those splitters. On a 110V 20A breaker you'll have a fire before you know it.

Excellent as always, I'm thinking of doing this with one different, I might make it so the monitor faces upward when stored and folds down to sit at the back/rear side of the shelf near to the wall therefore being further from the viewer (more desk space) and also I can then put a cover on the back so it would be completely hidden when in the stowed position :)

I was sure you'd use pop-up short throw 4k LG laser projector modules mounted to either ends of the desk or the overhanging wood. Have them project onto an automatic rolling projection screen that rises or lowers into place in sync with the full emergence of the laser projection pods. It would have been so much cooler and easier to tackle than this method.

What i LOVE about this channel is that the builds are great an elegant, but i can always see ways to improve them, however slightly. In this one i would add two thin pieces of aluminum running down from the VESA in the back down to the base of the monitor, with a mechanical connector to secure the monitor to the shelf on the inside. Wire the connector release to a hidden button on the front side of the shelf. Next i'd dampen the foldable legs. The end result is that lightly touching the side of the shelf in the right spot would release the monitor, which would gently fall into place. An obvious next addiction is to make the monitor fold back up on its own as well.... endless fun for this type of project!
